2/14/10 Valentine's Day, ONY Style

So we met up with each other for Valentine's day this year since neither of us had a date(go figure =P ). So now to answer the all important question we are faced with every time we go to the city: What are we going to do? Since this was a holiday and we were determined to have a good time despite our dateless status, we decided to use it as an excuse to treat our selves to something we don't have too often...Korean BBQ. OK so now the plan was set and off we went to K-town over by 32nd st. Now once your there you'll quickly realize that picking a place won't be so easy. There's literally Korean BBQ places right next door and across the street from one another. We walked around and compared prices and looked inside several places before finally settling on something that had seats available and still looked promising.

We ended up at eating at this restaurant "Han Gang".Just walking into the place we could tell the meal was going to be good...

Now here is a important fact to remember, often times when you ask for a table they will respond by asking you if you want a table with a stove. For anyone that isn't familiar with this, it's because a true Korean BBQ meal involves cooking the meat yourself right at the table. So in our case we opted for a table with a stove.

Another good thing to remember is that, a meal like this usually isn't cheap. Often a decent sized plate of meat can cost upwards of $20.00 each. So this is best reserved for certain occasions, unless you have money like that =P. We decided on getting "bulgogi" which is a type of fresh marinated beef, and a similar marinated spicy pork dish. So while we wait for the main meal they brought out all the side dishes you eat with it first.

So now the meat came and it was time to prepare it. Unlike most restaurants this place insisted on doing it for us. But as time went on we just began doing it ourselves anyway. Preparing the food like this is a great potential ice-breaker for a first date since it's a very interactive experience.

As dinner continued on we decided to get a sushi platter. This came out to over $30.00 itself but saying that it was worth it is an understatement.

So we finished dinner and decided to grab something for later once we got home. But what? Then we walked past this place.

Koryodang has mostly pastry/dessert oriented things to try. There's plenty of seating inside and we really liked the upscale yet chill vibe the place had.

We picked up a Green Tea cake and then headed off to H MART for some drinks.

Finally we decided to call it a night and head back home, to try some of the cake (which turned out to be delicious) and just chill.

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
