Reni Mimura Performs at DROM

We went to Reni's show at the DROM bar & lounge in the east village last Saturday. There was a great turnout at her show and there were some new faces among the audience.  The first act was jazz and oriental-inspired performance by the duo Myu to Yu (Myu is also one of Reni's Moe Moe dancers). Next on the stage was the sister-trio group, Promise, followed by the hilarious antics of otaku comedian, Uncle Yo. Finally, Reni came out with a megaphone getting the audience riled up before getting up on stage. Reni first song was from her first album called "Ra Tai (Naked Body)". This was the first time we ever heard her perform any of her older songs. She sang the song sitting down on a chair (a nod to how she use to perform this song back in Japan). It was a step away from her usual upbeat routines. This song was very heartfelt and it showcased Reni's amazing singing ability.

After a few songs, she later announces that she was spending February working on an upcoming "secret project".(ooo the curiosity). Comedy/Dance group, CD-3 performed in between Reni's acts. They performed their hip hop routine to a remix of Justin Timberlake's, "My Love".  They also threw in with some mild comedic dialogue into their act. For Reni's last song, NHK asked if the crowd could gather in front of the stage to film the opening of their "New York Wave" program. Reni also introduced a special guest, the host of New York Wave.

We met up with Reni after the show for pictures and to congratulate her for what was in our opinion, her best show yet.  She's always fun to talk to her and has a great personality.  There were some new merchandise available this time around including head bands which we picked up before we left.

At the end of the night, we met up with Gerardo, a friend of our who goes to all of Reni'show. (He's an aspiring photographer who takes shots at Reni's show. You can check out some of his work at http://gerardoflores.tripod.com/).  He took us to a great Japanese restaurant down at St. Marks called Village Yokocho.  It's a nice little place with good food for cheap prices. (Just don't expect to get seated anytime soon, when we got there, the place was packed).  The place also home to a nice little bar called Angel's Share, which I read is pretty good.  It was great dinner to top off an amazing night
